Nutty Chocolate Squares

75 g Self-raising wholemeal
-flour; (3oz)
1/2 ts Baking powder
25 g Cocoa powder; (1oz)
25 g Blanched almonds; chopped
-finely
; (1oz)
50 g Dark brown soft sugar; (2oz)
Grated zest and juice of 1
-orange
25 g Half-fat spread; (1oz)
75 g Skimmed-milk soft cheese;
-(3oz)
2 Eggs; (size 2) beaten

Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 4/180 C/350 F.

Lightly grease a 15 x 15cm (6 x 6 inch) square tin.

Sieve together the flour, baking powder and cocoa, retaining the bran. Stir
in the almonds, sugar and orange zest and juice.

Beat the half fat spread and soft cheese together and then beat into the
flour mixture. Add the eggs and mix thoroughly.

Pour the mixture into the prepared tin. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes
until firm to the touch.

Allow to cool slightly and then turn out and cool completely on a wire
rack. Cut into 12 squares.
